Overview

Majid Al Futtaim (MAF) required a freestanding Tesla charging solution for their malls in the UAE and Oman. Due to infrastructure limitations, traditional wall-mounted chargers near mall entrances were not an option. The challenge was to develop a sleek, functional, and adaptable design that seamlessly integrates with the mall environment while meeting Tesla’s technical requirements.

Design & Development

The charging station design was carefully crafted to balance aesthetics and functionality, ensuring it serves as both a practical and visually appealing addition to the space. Key design considerations included:

• Sleek & Modern Form – Inspired by Tesla’s signature curves, the station was designed to be minimal yet distinctive, blending into the surroundings without compromising visibility for EV drivers.

• Hollow Core Structure – The stand incorporates a ventilated internal cavity to accommodate the electrical cabling while ensuring heat dissipation.

• Underground Cabling Integration – Due to infrastructure constraints, all cabling was routed from below the station, maintaining a clean and seamless visual appeal.

• Material & Finish – Constructed from powder-coated aluminum, the station features a white RAL 9003 body, complemented by gray (RAL 9023) and red (RAL 3003) accents, ensuring durability and a premium finish.

Branding Adaptability

The original design featured the "Tesla" logo fret-cut into the top panel, but due to pending regulatory approvals in the UAE, an alternative branding solution was introduced. Instead of fret-cut lettering, both "Tesla" and "EV" branding were screen-printed on aluminum sheets and attached to the stand, providing flexibility for different use cases.

• Tesla Version – Designed specifically for Tesla charging stations, featuring Tesla’s logo and typography, aligned with their brand guidelines.

• EV Version – A more inclusive design that accommodates all electric vehicles, allowing MAF malls to future-proof their charging infrastructure.

Implementation & Impact

The charging stations have been successfully installed across multiple Majid Al Futtaim malls in Dubai and Oman, offering Tesla and other EV owners a seamless and high-quality charging experience.

The design not only enhances convenience for customers but also reinforces MAF’s commitment to sustainability and innovation, setting a benchmark for future EV infrastructure in commercial spaces.
